Squeaky Beach in the Wilsons Promontory National Park

Have you heard of Squeaky Beach in the Wilsons Promontory National Park?

It’s a beautiful beach that could rival some of the best in Australia. White sand and turquoise water are offset by orange granite rocks bordering the beach at either end.

You might find a few swimmers or surfers at the northern end of the beach near the car park. But stroll just a little further along the white sand and you’ll have the beach all to yourself.

Squeaky Beach is the most famous beach in the Wilsons Promontory National Park.

The beach got its name from the squeaking sound the sand makes beneath your feet.  The rounded grains of quartz in the sand are what make this unique effect.

On our day tour from Melbourne, we walk from Squeaky Beach to Tidal River. Starting on the sand, we walk to the southern end of the beach to meet the coastal bushland trail. You might be lucky enough to spot some wildlife along the trail as it leads you in to the Tidal River campground.

This is just one of the stops on our Wilsons Promontory tour. We also walk up Mt Bishop for panoramic views of the coast and forest. And we take the wildlife walk in search of kangaroos and emus.
